Kerrygold Review

The foodbuzz Tastemakers program sent me coupons to try two Kerrygold products. Perfect timing for St. Patty’s day! Kerrygold’s website says:

A TRUE TASTE OF IRELAND

Ireland has always been known as the “Emerald” or “Green” Island. A land of one hundred thousand welcomes, where the air is fresh and clean, the grass lush, and the rain soft and unpolluted. Ireland’s dairy herds graze freely outdoors on green pastures for most of the year. Irish dairy farmers continue the traditional farming practices of their ancestors and produce plenty of pure, creamy fresh milk, the raw material for Kerrygold premium dairy products.

Now since this is a review, I need to share my first two initial points:

  1. Being from a smaller town, this stuff was hard to find. I started searching in my town, and then ended up hitting a few stores in Sarasota this past weekend. It took me a total of 4 stores before I could find one of the cheeses. The butter I found in stores 2-4.
  2. This stuff is costly. I know it’s imported from Ireland and I know that it’s high quality, so I do understand the nature of the cost. However, while I’m being honest I can promise that a budget-minded shopper like myself would probably steer clear of the cheeses if they didn’t have any coupons.

Now on to the products I chose!

Kerrygold Pure Irish Butter

This butter was actually quite good, and there was a noticeable taste difference between regular butter and Irish butter. There was a greater depth of flavor, and you really could tell it tasted pure (is that cheesy to say?). And just to clarify, the size of the package is the size of 2 regular sticks of butter. I prepared two samples for my husband and myself: a tiny slice of french bread with a bit of Kerrygold Pure Irish Butter on top, microwaved 5 seconds.

Kerrygold Dubliner Cheese

The Kerrygold Dubliner Cheese is just what the packages describes: “Aged Cheese with a Distinctive Taste and a Natural Hint of Sweetness”. There is a strong (good strong) flavor punch with this cheese! Which is great, because it will go perfectly with the recipe I have in mind for it later this week. Friday, if all things go according to plan. :)

Here’s a look at the nutriton stats and ingredients (I do love the simple ingredients!)

There ya go! For a special treat, I would definitely recommend these butters and cheeses. I may try to incorporate the butter into some baking this weekend if I have the time, and I will definitely share any recipes I come up with!!

Thanks Kerrygold, and thank you foodbuzz for this great opportunity and special treat!!

P.S. If this post appeared last night in your Reader, I apologize for my technical difficulties!!
