I pulled the ultimate lazy card for dinner tonight. Microwavable Amy’s non-dairy burritos – and I didn’t even make them. To top that, I was a lazy food blogger and I didn’t even take the picture! I casually asked Ross, “Hey honey, think you can handle dinner tonight?” (4 minutes later Ross hands me my plate with a burrito)…”Um honey, you didn’t take a picture…”. bahaha, do I have some nerve or what?
Back it up a minute – I had a grrrrrreat! workout this afternoon. It started with an awesome strength session at home (guaranteed to be sore tomorrow). One thing I do is write out every strength move I want to do before I start. Then the psycho-list-maker in me has additional motivation to complete each move so I can cross it off.
As I go, I just write down how many sets/ reps/ lbs I used per exercise.
Unfortunately when I was done and ready to hit the gym for some cardio, it was pouring and lightning like crazy! So since dinner was postponed a while longer, I ate this half of a coconut cream pie Larabar that has been in my purse for probably far too long…
Love that flavor! It’s my numero uno.
Finally I was able to escape to the gym for 25 minutes on the elliptical. Escape? Gym? Not so much. More like child’s playground.
I fully support and encourage families to exercise together. I think that’s a great habit to get your children into – time is much better spent on a family walk than in front of the tv in my opinion. To this day, I remember going on long 5 mile walks/ bike rides with my family after dinner when we lived in Kentucky. I remember the fun, the rolling green hills, the horses and the white picket fences. It was great!
Here was my issue: while the mom was trying to work out, she had her child there (probably 5-6 years old?). Her child definitely did not understand the “don’t talk to strangers” rule (to the point of going up to a girl on a treadmill and saying, “can I have it now”?). Additionally, the little girl was literally running around, jumping all over equipment, messing with equipment, taking pins out of the weight machines and causing general chaos. She was a joyful little girl, but she was energetic to the extreme.
What would you do? I understand the mother’s desire of wanting to workout, and needing to bring her child with her since the child can’t be left at home. I do think the child needs to be reprimanded though, and made to understand that most importantly she could get hurt very easily in that environment, and that it is NOT a playground.
I also think that if my child was just too wild (and esp. since the mom was just doing really gentle cardio) I would go for walks with my child instead.
Your thoughts?
P.S. I just saw the new header for my new blog and I LOVE IT!!!

I'm glad you got a pic of the burrito–it looks incredible!
That pic actually makes the burrito looks fabulous! Haha, I love it.
UGH sorry bout the gym sitch. I'd probably get super frustrated, but I'm pretty non-confrontational. It can be a bad thing. I'd just deal with it if I was working out. But if it was my kid, NO WAY would I tolerate that. If the kid is really not behaving and not responding to reprimanding, and there's no child care at the gym, the mother needs to get out of the gym and go outside with the kid. Seriously, that's inconsiderate and dangerous.
Anyway, happy friday, love
Sometimes lazy dinners are the best … and what better way to have one then with Amy's?? ; )
There's nothing wrong with a lazy dinner! I had one for myself last night.
My gym has pretty strict rules about having children under a certain age (12?) on the gym floor. Even then, they must be with their parents at all times.
I'm sorry that little girl was such a distraction to you and others. If it were my daughter, I'd be mortified.
Perhaps that mom needs to find a gym that offers childcare.
Okay, Ross's cooking cracks me up. And your strength training method does too. Also, that flavor is my favorite. And finally, I would have probably taken my child out too. Was it raining or anything? Maybe that's why?
I'm totally with you! I'd just take the kid on a walk or something.
