Blogging is a Reward

After my post on my Smlove Pie makeover this morning, I told myself, “Lindsey – you are not doing anything else, including blogging, until you apply for five jobs!”

Five job apps later, here I am! Applying for jobs can be absolutely mind-numbing and boring, so it’s good to have a “treat” waiting. :)

Lunch was the leftover lentil soup from last night. (I had a couple more of those little wheat biscuits too, I just added them after the photo when I wanted some “dippers”).

I also made a green smoothie of soymilk, ice, frozen mango, tons of spinach, ground flax, and a splash of OJ. I was only to finish about 1/3 of it before I got full (too much liquid!) so the rest is waiting for me in the freezer.

I’m hoping to knock out a few more job apps this afternoon before I work out. Then tonight I need to really figure out what the heck is going on with the new site/ blog. [I thought things were almost ready, but randomly there are these html coding issues popping up. html code will be the death of me. (Well, that or job apps hehe).]

Check it out: Jordan, my sister-in-law, went to Africa this summer on a mission trip. Check out this beautiful wood serving utensil set she brought back for us. I love it! Thanks, Jo!

I have a huge thing for African culture. I’m really hoping to go on a mission trip to Africa myself one day, I’ve wanted to for years! (Same with India, I’d love to go on a mission trip there as well!).

Have you ever been on a mission trip or a service/ volunteer trip? Is there anyplace you’d like to go? The only overseas mission trip I’ve been on so far was a week in Italy, working with Italian college students. It was such a great experience!

Don did three weeks in India and it was a life changer, for sure. I have a friend who worked for Wycliffe in Africa for a very long time. Her stories and her pics are amazing. Good for you for working those job apps!!

Yes applying for jobs can be the worst. Glad you got a lot done today though. I've always wanted to go to Africa myself! Pretty utensils.

Last summer, I went on a mission trip to Nicaragua for 8 days. It was life changing! But I think I'd like to do some local mission work too, here in the U.S. Thanks for reminding me!

I'm super interested in African culture too. I focused on it in college. I would love to go there someday.

I've never been abroad for a mission trip, but I would love too.

I love the silverware. Good luck with the site and the apps :)

I just saw your last post on the pie!! It looks amazing :) I was worried about the tofu aspect, too!

I've never been on a mission trip. My church goes to the Dominican Republic every year, but it always falls at a bad time for me.

Hey Suzinc! Mission trips that I’ve gone on/ heard about are always through my church or groups I’m involved with (like Campus Crusade for Christ in college). I would start by checking out your church, other churches in your area/ that friends go to, or any religious organizations in your area.

Something that I’ve been hearing more about isn’t so much mission trip, but service trips. Mission trips do have a faith focus, and do typically include helping others, while service trips are about going on a trip to offer your time and talents to help others, usually without a faith affiliation (from what I’ve seen). I don’t remember too many organizations that I looked into off the top of my head, but I’m pretty sure one I looked at was service trips with Habitat for Humanity — they have some great locales!

      Hope that helps!
