Progresso Lentil Soup

Good morning! Happy to report that Ross is feeling better. He’s not 100% yet and already called in to work tomorrow, but his fever has broken. Yay!

Quite unlike my husband who slept 21 hours straight, I didn’t fall asleep until after 3AM last night – I miss my bed! I woke up with some Tropical Granola I recently made with some delicious vanilla rice milk.

I also just had the last of my lentil soup from last night’s dinner. K asked me what kind of soup it was. Well, y’all, nothing fancy over here.

99 fat free lentil

Progresso Vegetable Classics 99% Fat Free Lentil Soup.

Years ago when I first realized I liked lentils, I think this was the first lentil soup that I ever tried. And I loved it. Still do! The nutrition stats are pretty decent (140 calories and 8 grams protein per serving – 2 servings per can). Yes the sodium is high, but what canned item doesn’t have high sodium? (Which is why, considering how many homemade things I consume, I don’t feel too bad about the convenience of canned soups occasionally).

I love Amy’s and other organic soups just as much as the next person, but let’s be real here – I’m unemployed. And even when I am employed – I’m frugal. When I find Progresso soups on sale (worked out to be $0.62 per serving) I’m all over it. :)

Alright y’all, I’m off to see what I can do with my Sunday. :) I’m thinking job apps and a stair master interval workout later. Hopefully a nap will sneak in there, too. ;) See you later gators!

Glad the hubs is feeling better – still sending him get better wishes :)

Thanks for answering my Q! I love a good lentil soup so I’ll have to pick up a can of that. To be honest, I find Amy’s soups to be rather bland so there’s no hate to the Progresso :)

Yum! I’ve never tried lentil soup before, but I’m recently realizing how yummy legumes are and how much my tum enjoys them– I think I’m going to have to give it a try!

Hi Lindsey, thanks for the comment! I totally agree on the frugal Progresso approach. My fav: their chicken noodle! The noodles are so much better than Campbell’s. I like Amy’s tomato soup a lot, but her “no chicken noodle” is really bad in my opinion! Good luck with your job apps!

I love Progresso soups too! When I became a vegetarian I REALLY loved them because they say right on the can “vegetarian” or “non vegetarian.” I have to buy them for that reason alone! :) Lentil is a big hit in our house – it was the first one I ever had too!

  14. I LOVE THIS LENTIL SOUP! When you don’t feel like spending more than a few minutes on a meal, it’s a great stand-in. I like to add homemade dumplings to mine, check out my post from a couple days ago: http://Lauramke.blogspot.com
