Remember when I ranted about the awful quality of products and terrible customer service from the folks at Black & Decker? I believe it was when I finally got my replacement food processor just three days ago? Yeah, in case you don’t follow me on twitter…the dumb thing broke again last night (the same exact way it broke last time!). It’s the Black & Decker Quick n Easy Plus Food Processor. The rod that the blades are attached to split right up the middle while processing creamy, frozen bananas. Seriously?
So while I was off on my tirade and lamenting the loss of no banana soft serve last night, my genius husband decides to take control of the situation. He chopped up the bananas a little more with one of those dinky little hand held pastry cutters. Then, he took a hand mixer (cheap one, years old from Walmart) to finish the job.

Yup, a cheap old hand mixer from Walmart works better than a brand new food processor made by Black & Decker. Suit yourself if you feel the need to get a Black & Decker food processor, but don’t say I didn’t warn ya!
I am definitely going to try to call B&D customer service tomorrow, but I have zero hope that they’ll do anything for me. This is the same customer service that made me pay an additional $9.25 to forward the shipped package to me when they initially shipped it to the wrong address. In the meantime all I will do is everything in my power to prevent others from making the same purchase (thank you social media tools of blogging and twitter!).
Anyway! (Thank you for reading through that if you’re a regular reader – I’m sure you can understand my wanting to make sure no one else buys their products).
Breakfast this morning was a delicious green SIAB (smoothie in a bowl). This morning’s contained spinach, half a frozen banana, a few chunks of frozen mango, frozen cherries, ice, plain almond milk and vegan chocolate brown rice protein powder. I topped it with some homemade granola.

I have been all over these SIABs lately! I crave them like it’s my job.
I think it’s the addition of the granola on top that makes it so much more “yum”. A little bit of chew in crunch in every bite – what’s not to love?
Time to make the most of the rest of my Sunday!
- Workout
- Fold laundry (ughhh)
- Menu plan for week
- Prep food for easier dinner prep for the week
- Make chili for dinner!
- Job apps, job apps, job apps! At least 5 today, that’s the goal!
Have a great day and see you later!

Great job with the hand mixer! My food processors both died before I got to make the soft serve so I have been making it in my blender and it works perfectly! I start with chop, move on to mix, and end with stir for a fluffy finish!
Sorry about the food processor
I recommend KitchenAid.
I’m with VeggieGirl. I have a KitchenAid and I love it!
I have a mountain of laundry to do too. Don’t you wish you could just snap your fingers and have it all be clean and folded, or even put away?
Have a great Sunday!
flip’n black and decker! they need to just give you you’r money back!
and omg that smoothie in a bowl??!!? i so wish i had a blender…all the smoothies going around on the blog…but the temps here in S TX have dipped into the 50′s (?!?!?!?!) so maybe not such a good idea…haha.
g’luck w/ the apps. I’m in the same boat. they need to just give us jobs already, right? haha.
I hate when food blenders can’t handle stuff I like to blend often
Have a nice day
Ugh, that’s so annoying. Good luck working everything out!
I have to say, my family’s super old hand mixer works wonders, even to this day. I’ve never tried it for the soft serve, though! That might be easier… and save on clean-up, hehe.
nice hand mixing
haha
at least it saves clean up.. xo
Ugh, that’s awful about the food processor! At least you guys got creative and made the hand mixer work
Good luck with customer service. The SIAB idea is fantastic!
Job apps… ugh! Where are you looking to find the jobs to apply for? All I seem to come across are sales jobs and scams!
Note to self: NEVER buy a Black & Decker food processor.
Yeah, sales jobs and scams are way too prevalent. Esp. craigslist. Craigslist used to be decent (and there are still occasionally good local places on there) but it’s mostly scams/ a waste of time.
I really like http://www.indeed.com – it pulls from a lot of search engines so I can see results from monster, career builder, simply hired, Shands (hospital up here), UF, etc.
orlandojobs.com is a good resource for central FL jobs!

So annoying about B & D. I hope they get their acts together, treat you right and give you a working processor. Good luck!
I use the crockpot that my mom gave me that she used for years because it works way better than any of the new ones I have! It def. looks like it is from the 80′s with the cool color scheme, but I love it!
Hope the rest of your weekend is good!!

What a pain with the food processor!! If you are looking for a different brand I have a Cuisinart blender/food processor combo and it’s fabulous. I have never had a problem with it!
That’s ridiculous that the machine is so poorly crafted! At least you have an industrious husband
