I’m in the midst of an exercise identity crisis. Don’t worry, it’s a very good one.
Just a couple weeks ago I was struggling with even maintaining run a minute/ walk a minute intervals (on the treadmill). I thought that with all the body problems (misaligned kneecap, shin problems, ankle crap, etc.) that I just wasn’t meant to be a runner. I thought I would always be stuck with walking (which can be a great workout!) and low-impact cardio machines at the gym. Well last week I took it outside. I jogged twenty minutes straight. Then a few days later I jogged for 30 minutes, walking about 5 minutes in that time. Then tonight I headed out in the drizzly rain and went for a 35 minute run, no walking. Seriously? Who am I?
I think one thing that was key was cross-training. Even though I was experiencing some shin and knee issues and I couldn’t run for a little while, I didn’t let that keep me from working out. I did high-intensity workouts on the stair master and elliptical around 5 days a week. I also strength-train around 4 days a week. I think that right there kept me from having to start over/ start from scratch with jogging again.
Now I have some goals and mini-goals in mind that I’m looking forward to working towards. Both speed and distance related. Knock on wood, I really hope I can keep this up!
My husband was a dream tonight – even though he worked late, he had dinner all planned out when I got back from my jog. Not an elaborate dinner, but a dinner none the less! Particularly thoughtful because he grabbed the only vegan frozen pizza for me:

I ended up having half of it – I was hungry and too lazy to throw together a salad.
Alright, well I’m in a pretty darn good mood at the moment, so I’m off to go have fun with the rest of my night.
Don’t forget to vote! All for one and one for all!

Woo hoo! Good for you
I go back and forth with my running “identity” so I feel ya. I definitely prefer being outside. Good luck with your training goals!

Good job!
Lindsey that is awesome!! Good for you and congrats on this wonderful accomplishment!
I need to try this Pizza. It always looks and sounds sooooo good! Plus, I’m not a fan of cheese on pizza so I think this would taste perfect for me.
Congrats on the run! I love when I surprise myself at the gym. I think to myself “Whoa, I didn’t know I could run this much!” It is always a fun feeling

This is D’s version of cooking, down to the exact pizza brand. He looked over while I was on the computer and said, “oh, I can make that.” HAHA.

Awesome job on the run! I really need to make myself run more often. I was doing good when I thought I was training for a race, but then the race fell through and I lost my motivation.
