Stabilizing Breakfast

I don’t know about you, but when I have a rough start to a morning, the cure lies in a stabilizing breakfast. I woke up feeling like I was hit by a semi truck (achy muscles and awful allergies) and I overslept my phone’s alarm to wake me up in time to check out a new church that some friends go to. Although I was bummed about missing church I refused to let it get me down. While I chugged a bottle of water, Ross made me a cup of Jasmine Green Tea – so soothing to the senses!

Then it was time for the most stabilizing breakfast I know of – oats! My Sunday morning oats were a combination of a half cup oatmeal, almond milk, water, brown sugar, raw almonds and pomegranate arils. Usually I stick with a third cup of oats, so I couldn’t finish this half cup portion – too filling!

The combination of the pretty new table runner, beautiful oats and my cute little Crate & Barrel spoon may have also helped turned my morning around. ;) Even looking at the picture makes me happy – some of my favorite colors all staring back at me!

Question of the day – what are some of your favorite holiday dishes? I’m on a quest to veganize some holidays dishes (think pumpkin pie, mashed potatoes, green bean casserole) and I was curious as to what some of your family’s favorite dishes are.

My grandpa is diabetic, so every year I come up with a new pumpkin dessert that he can enjoy! I love getting to try different spins on a classic dish.

Pumpkin custards, whispers (an alcoholic drink with creme de cocoa, brandy and coffee ice cream blended together), squash casserole (made with an obscene amount of velveeta cheese)….

That is a lovely table setting. Where did you pick it up? I really like the 3-D effect of the flowers.
