Confessions of SE 2

I am definitely still trying to get used to this whole “working” thing. Don’t get me wrong, I love having a job and I’m enjoying what I do, but I am also a big fan of routine and structure, something I have yet been able to obtain. Hopefully soon! I wasn’t too hungry this morning so I poured some of this cereal that Ross bought (isn’t it sweet that he checks to make sure the cereal is vegan in case I may want it, too?). I had 1.5 cups (1.5 servings) of cereal with a cup of plain almond milk.

I’m also sipping on a mug of french press coffee in my own chocolate latte style – coffee (decaf) with chocolate soymilk and just a splash of coconut milk creamer. Such a delicious treat and perfect with a light breakfast.

I decided to bring back Confessions of SE since it seemed so popular last week. Plus it’s kind of fun to think of my “confessions”. ;)

1. I wear my jeans 3-4 times before washing them. I hate when jeans first come out of the dryer and you have to re-break them in for a day to get back to that super comfy place. Which is why I get upset when I come in and just leave my jeans on the floor as I change into gym clothes, and I come back and Ross has washed them since they were on the floor. Especially if they had just been washed. Nooo!

2. I don’t think breaking into the blog-world is as easy as some proclaim it to be. You will not automatically gain readers if you comment a lot (especially if you leave random comments without really reading the post – we can tell if you really read or not!). You will not automatically be popular if you post three times a day. You will not have a large audience solely by blogging for a year or more. This is why I strongly believe you have to do what you love and not just follow the masses. If you read some popular blogs (in any niche) they may not all be as great as they’re chalked up to be. Believe in yourself and love this hobby. :)

3. I secretly wonder what some of my “online friends” are like in real life. I know first-hand that people can be very different than how they come across on their blogs. It makes me really wish I could meet all of you!

Hope you enjoyed this week’s confessions! Any resonate with you?

  • haha girl im the same way with jeans. i hate the right out of the dryer jeans. far too snug :)

  • I think I probably wear my jeans 10-12 times before wearing them. How disgusting is that?

  • OH and i want to meet you too! i feel like you’d be exactly how i expect :) WONDERFUL

  • [...] This post was Twitted by SoundEats [...]

  • I’m the exact same with jeans. I’ve yelled at Andy many times for washing my jeans before I was done with them! hahaha.

I think I love these confession posts! And no, breaking into the blog world is definitely not as easy as one might think. :)

  • I love your confessions! I sympathize with all of them :) Luckily, I knew who you were in person before blog land, but blogging has helped me get to know you a lot better! Yay :)

  • I’m loving the confessions post. And I totally agree with you on #2…everyone makes it sound so easy, and it really isn’t!

  • Love the confessions… and I agree with every single one of them! I hate washing denim… and I wear that practically every day, so I have to wash it at some point, right?!

#2 is one that I resonate with a lot. I have three blogs: spiritual, recipes, exercising/health. I really like keeping it separate. But, I don’t have a lot of readers. Who knows why? But like you said, you have to be true to what you are doing – and not worry about how many readers you have!

  • I wear my jeans forever. I HATE when they are freshly washed. Hate it.
I agree with #2 100%. It took me 3 months before I even got any comments, but I didn’t care, just kept plugging along b/c I really enjoy blogging. I feel like some of the “popular” blogs aren’t any more special than others, they just marketed themselves differently perhaps. I don’t know!

  • I love the confessions and I definitely wear my jeans multiple times, I don’t want them to fade from too much washing!

  • I am the EXACT same way with jeans. Especially this one pair that I have. After 2 or 3 wears they are PERFECT so I usually go about 5 wears between washes :S Hehe

  • So glad to read that your jean confession is the same as mine! I hate washing jeans, the fit is so much better on days 3 and 4 :)

  • Kat

Oh I’m so glad you said that about the jeans thing – I wear them multiple times before washing them. They’re just not comfy right out of the dryer!

And I’m with you on wondering how people are in real life. A couple of the more “popular” bloggers have been less than nice in other people’s blog comments and on Twitter, and it makes me wonder how they normally are in person. :/

  • Lo

confession- i never wash my leggings until i can tell they are stretched out and maybe smell like the outdoors. no shame, no shame hahahhaah

    lo

  • I am the same way with my jeans…must wear them several times! And I also agree that having a blog should be for YOU not just to “make it” in the blog world. I love seeing what everyone’s day is like as I catch up on my blogs and would also love to see what everyone is like in real life…although that would also make me mucho nervous :) I’m kind of shy. I like your confessions.

  • I hate freshly washed jeans. They are so much more comfortable after I wear them a few times!

I would love to meet some of my online friends. I sort of feel like I know what their personalities are so it would be fun to see if I am right.

  • I love your confessions! I agree with the part about breaking into the blog world. I have been blogging for a long time now (18 months) and my blog is not nearly as “popular” as some who have not been doing it as long.

That used to discourage me (and still does sometimes, honestly, there’s my confession!) but I just have to keep being me and keep doing it because I want to and I like to, not because I “have” to.

    Thanks for that reminder ;-)

  • i’ve met mama pea a couple times (peasandthankyou.com) and i love that she is a lot like she is online-fun, a bit sarcastic, mama to some adorable girls! but i do wonder how much some people are like their online self…
and sometimes i put my jeans in the dryer to shrink them (they stretch baddd) but don’t wash them. washing takes too long.

  • I enjoyed your confessions. I espcially like the second one. My blog is still a baby and at first I was gung ho about commenting on every blog I read, every day, every post so I would gain readers. I wanted people to read me! After a while I didn’t do as often but I don’t think it hurt me. I don’t think it helped a ton either, but whatever! My blog is out there in cyber space so someone is bound to find it!

I hate washing my jeans :( I don’t like how tight they feel after the dry.

  • Hehe, I love your confessions ;-) Here my responses in true confession form!

    1. OMGosh, me too!! I do the smell test to see if jeans need to be washed! It usually ends up being 3 times at the least. Oh, a worse than washing a pair of jeans not meant to be washed yet…ACCIDENTLY DRYING THEM! I hate having to do the whole squat and stretch. LOL

    2. Nope, I agree, it isn’t easy at all. I have been blogging for over a year and still have very few comments or responses. I have a few dedicated girls that I cherish (YOU, VG, Sarah, Keri, Sarah) and several others who will randomly comment. But just by writing and commenting won’t get it done and guarantee you a “popular and successful” blog. Of course, in referring to popular and successful, it’s all relative ;-) (PS- When I read, I REALLY read!)

    3. I, too, wonder sometimes about my blog friends and they lives they lead. BTW, I still wish we lived closer so we could go for coffee and a jog. Love you friend!

  • AMEN to number 1..if they dont get dirty the first couple times then why not?! and i do understand number 2..since i just started!

  • Hehehe. I love these confessions.

    1. I’m afraid I’m like some of the others on this comment thread. I usually wear them about 10-12 times :) SO gross, I know. And I get FURIOUS when D dries them. I seriously throw a temper tantrum.

    2. I have never tried to “make it,” so this was interesting to me. I am probably really naive but I didn’t realize that people would comment just to get you to read their own blog. That is really interesting! I agree 100% about doing what you love and making it for you. I didn’t promote or even share my blog out of sheer terror that people I knew would find it earlier in my blogging career. Now, I’m more laid back about it and will usually attach my name to a comment (like here) because I realize that blogging is more fun if you have SOME readers. But I don’t need a lot. I think you are a great blogger. I always read and enjoy your posts, even if I don’t comment! Your passion for this creative medium shines through and so does your sweet personality.

    3. I definitely wonder this too! I have only met one blogger, Jenna, and she is probably NOT what you would think (she is great, but I envisioned her personality a lot differently. Although maybe you have envisioned her differently, and could be correct!)

And WE need to meet! I know the holidays are upon us. What do your December weekends look like (the 11/12 and 18/19? I finish school the 7th and will be working more but otherwise, I will have free time! Then you can judge my personality vs how I seem on my blog…hehe.

  • I agree about jeans…sometimes I lose track how long ago it was I washed them…and I figure then it is time to throw them in the machine! LOL

As for the blogging thing…I confess I was commenting on every post of some the bigger blogs for a time because I thought it would help me. What a pain in the ass! I made a “blog resolution” that I would only ever comment on a blog when I actually was struck by something and had something to say rather than just commenting to comment. I feel much better about myself now.

Obviously your post struck me today..therefore the comment!!!

  • 1) I do the same thing with my jeans… don’t tell.
    2) I am posting because I have something to say! My “jeans confession” was a big stepping out of the closet moment, I will have you know! ;-)
    3) Me too… but do we REALLY want to know?

  • I know what you mean about the jeans. I hate jeans right after they have been washed! Even with fabric softner they are still all stiff and not as awesome as they are after wearing them for a day! I bet a lot of people do this :)

  • Haha oh yes, I’m with everyone on the jeans.

Hope to meet ya in the future!

  • I promise I read the whole thing! Hee hee.

I am totally with you on #1 and #2 (Dear Jeans, why are you tight fresh out of the dryer and super loose in 3 hours?!). I have a friend who set up a blog and was fishing for comments all of the time. She complains that she is not as popular is me (I am not AT ALL). She… doesn’t get you. You DO just have to do it for you! It has to be about how it makes YOU feel! It makes me feel excited!

  • Confession is good for the soul. I wear my jeans a few times between washing, BUT, I throw them in the dryer for a few minutes before I wear them again, because I don’t like how they stretch out TOO much. I’m clearly in the minority on that one. Stretch is great, but by the end of the day, my pants are falling down; even when they fit snugly in the morning.

I blog, but it’s more of a journal, so I don’t have a lot of readers. I didn’t start the blog with the intent of establishing some sort of huge following, but it’s hard to not get caught up in “blog envy.” You’re right, though, you should blog for yourself; do what feels right for you; write about what makes you happy. Good advice!

You should do these confessions more often; I think we all enjoy the catharsis!

  • The jean thing! I will go weeks w/o washing them because it’s too depressing after they are washed/dried.

I have been wondering about the blog thing. I really don’t have a lot of followers and am not sure how to add more. I don’t really blog for anyone though. I don’t post all my meals and never will. I just want a fun place to chill and talk. I love the confessions that maybe included in my next blog.

  • AWw, Lindsey you are adorable! I love these confessions because I have the exact same ones.

So true about the blogging confession. You really can’t start and expect a HUGE following. It takes time to build up relationships, just as in any connection in life.

But in all honesty, I am so happy that blogging led me to you and I do often wonder about you in real life! Okay, here is one more confession….
I was weirdly hoping that you would have a Vlog up soon because I really feel that vloging is so unveiling to so many people I read about everyday. It really brings people to life and even if we never get the chance to meet in real life, at least we can continue to blog and vlog, right?!?

  • Good thing I am not in it just to be popular! :) I just absolutely love blogging and I love the people I have met and the people it’s helped me grow closer to..*coughcough* that would be you….*cough*. ;) Thanks for being there for me and helping me get started and keeping me focused on just doing what I love. It’s helped..a lot!! :)

Oh and I wear my jeans at least 3 times before washing them. Gross or not, they suck when they just come out of the dryer!

  • I love these confessions. All of them! I also completely agree with Kat, some of the ‘popular’ bloggers seem to have a different personality commenting/tweeting than they do on their own blogs.

Some of my favorite blogs are lesser known :)

    I hope you keep confessing!

  • I totally wear my jeans that many times, plus 3. hahah

and i’m with you breaking into the blog world…i’ve been doing it for almost 2 yrs and am no where near as popular…but i love my blog, so no worries!

  • Totally agree with 1 and 3. 1 is one of the many reasons I hate how stretchy jeans have gotten! You go through the break in, they’re perfect for maybe 24 hours and then they stretch out too much – ugh!

  • This is my first time reading your blog and I just wanted to say, I definitely hear you on #2 about blogging. I try to keep my focus on learning new information and making online “friends” rather than gaining readers. Sure, I want people to read my blog, but in the end I really do it for myself and to help others in any way I can. I know all the amazing ideas I get from blogs, hopefully some people get ideas from mine :)

  • Uhh, I may also wear a pair of jeans 3-4 times before washing them :) No shame!!

And yumm always loving your cereal bowls. I think its a combination of the pretty bowls, cute backgrounds and delicious cereals! ;) That kind reminds me of shredded spoonfuls!
