Girl’s Day, New Moon, Fun Food and More!

Buckle your seat belts and get ready for a HUGE recap post of my past 36 hours!

Yesterday I went for a half hour jog and then cleaned up a little before I left. As I was shuffling through and reorganizing the freezer a little bit, I discovered something amusing in the back. Apparently someone’s been sneaking in some sweets and trying to hide them in the depths of the freezer.

I found it absolutely hilarious that Ross tried to hide these, so I figured I’d leave him a note reminding him he’s free to enjoy whatever he pleases. :)

Fast forward through a two hour drive down to Orlando and I met up with Ryan and Ashley for part one of girl’s day! We hit up Lululemon, Whole Foods and H&M. I actually didn’t buy any clothing, but I did pick up a couple things at Whole Foods, including my first ever vegetable juice! This one consisted of beet, kale, apple and celery. (Photo courtesy of Ryan, thank you girl!)

DSC_1222 Then round two of girl’s night commenced – pizza at Ryan’s before heading out to see NEW MOON! While we were working on the pizzas we munched on some carrots and cucumber slices with hummus. Anything with hummus is awesome in my book! DSC_3172 Our pizzas consisted of this awesome whole wheat multi grain pizza dough that I picked up from Publix, topped with a pesto Ryan had made with basil, nutritional yeast, almonds and olive oil. On top of that we layered marinara, baby spinach and garlic. So good!

DSC_3174 Then we headed out to see New Moon! If you know me at all or if you follow me on twitter, you know that I was just a little excited to see New Moon. You won’t be getting any spoilers out of me, but just know that I loved the movie and I’m really looking forward to seeing it again! I’d also like to note that I loved sitting next to Ashley during the movie – she’s a recent Twilight fan and she was quite enthusiastic about the movie! It made it so much more enjoyable for me, too. ;)

Post-movie I had a treat that I recently created and made to bring to share with the girl’s. I intended for them to be a vegan pomegranate cheesecake swirled brownie, but the brownie layer came out too thick and very rich/ not too sweet, kind of like a dark chocolate truffle. I mean, Imade them myself and even I could barely believe they were vegan! For now these pomegranate cheesecake truffled brownies will be a secret recipe, because I’m entering them into at least one contest.

This morning I headed back to Gainesville because my sister was coming to spend the weekend with me! I won’t see her at Thanksgiving, so she is stopping by before heading home to Sarasota for the holiday. On the way up I hit up Starbucks to get an Awake Tea Misto with soy, which I unfortunately did not end up drinking because they made it with dairy. :( Three sips into it (and already on the road) I realized it was definitely not vegan, as I was immediately experiencing some tummy trouble and congestion.

DSC_3177

Which was quite unfortunate, because it made my first starbucks red cup experience a bust and it left me dealing with this mess without caffeinated. :(

My two hour trip home turned into a three hour and forty-five minute trip home, due to an unfortunate accident (I hope all were ok!) and the dang Gator game (ugh Gainesville….it’s a total love/hate thing). Once home, though, I didn’t have long to wait for my sister to arrive! Megan arrived shortly after I did and we immediately headed out to Roly Poly. I grabbed a small create your own of a hot pressed whole wheat wrap with red pepper hummus, little spicy honey mustard, spinach, sprouts, kalamata olives, mushrooms, avocado, dried cranberries, cashews, sunflower seeds, plum tomatoes, roasted red peppers…I think that was all! I may have embarrassed my sister a tad, and made a slight spectacle over how long it was taking me to order with my checklist of veggies.

Now for some other fun food! I finally tried my first star fruit that I had picked up recently. Interesting! It was good, but not my favorite fruit. Although definitely my favorite shape! It’d be perfect for a cocktail garnish!

DSC_3196

I also took the opportunity to make something I’ve been looking forward to for a while! I found organic local potatoes recently that are PURPLE! Naturally, just as I am attracted to star shaped fruit, I’m also attracted to colorful foods. We used the potatoes to make purple (err, blue) mashed potatoes to go with dinner.

For dinner we also had tofu (for me) and chicken (for Ross and Megan) in a sauce of white wine, lemon, Earth Balance, herbs, spinach and grape tomatoes. A little too much lemon, but tasty none the less!

Along with zucchini cooked in a pan with some misted EVOO and a warm ball of doughy goodness!! I adore fresh, doughy rolls!

All together, it was a wonderful meal that I got to put together with my one and only sister – great evening!

Now if you’re still reading, I wanted to thank you for putting up with such a long recap post! Just for that, you get a break. ;) I probably won’t post again until Sunday evening, so I will see you all then!

I’m so glad you enjoyed New Moon! To be honest, I wasn’t crazy about it after seeing it the first time. After the second time, I liked it better. I guess it was good that they were faithful to the book, but I think maybe they followed it a little too closely ie. some of the dialogue was a little too much for me.

I don’t usually follow vegan sites except for veggiegirl so it will be fun to see your meals! I love looking at new products and food.

Those brownies look so decadent and delicious!
I hate when I order soy at Starbucks and they give me milk instead. I usually don’t realize it until I have left the store and am too far to take it back and exchange it. Ugh.
Isn’t starfruit interesting? I have a huge tree in my back yard, so I am pretty sick of them myself!

Fantastic Weekend! Good times with friends, movies, and family. Ugh, sorry about the crummy traffic jam though. Sitting in traffic is the WORST!

Glad you are having a great weekend hun.

Ugh don’t you get so frustrated when they don’t listen to your dietary restrictions?

Traffic jams are no fun luckily in the Midwest they never last long.

I’m not in love with Twilight yet maybe the movies would change my mind!

Your girls day sound phenom. I wish I could find people who enjoyed doing that stuff here! That is like my perfect day.

You should have told Megan that when she was done visiting you, that she needed to drive up to DANVILLE and come visit me!

The Klondike bars are HILARIOUS! Silly Ross. I still can’t believe they messed up your Starbucks order so bad. What if you were allergic to milk? I hope you wrote to Starbucks to complain!

LOL. It’s so cute that Ross was hiding sweets. Sometimes I hide them too – from myself! :)

That pizza looks so good. I need to give nutritional yeast another try.

I am sorry you got a messed up drink at Starbucks! I always felt dairy right away after I ate it too. :(
