Good morning! I woke up at 5:30 this morning and I could not fall back asleep no matter how much I wanted to. This was not one of those cases where I was going to work out before work – I get off at 1:00 today, I have all the time in the world to run errands and work out! After being unable to fall asleep, I finally just got out of bed and moved on with my day. (AKA read some blogs!).
I had what I at first thought was a really weird craving for breakfast – a hummus sandwich. I’ve been craving savory breakfasts lately, and because of that I’ve been expanding my ideas of what “breakfast” really consists of. Why should a hummus sandwich be weird and not a bacon and egg sandwich? I decided there was really no extra “weirdness” so I had exactly what I wanted – mini sandwiches of french bread, garlic hummus, tomato and grilled with earth balance.
Now I admit – the sandwich wasn’t quite as good without my beloved rosemary bread, but it was still enjoyable and filled my savory breakfast void.
If this trend sticks, plan on seeing many more non-traditional breakfasts on SE (Sound Eats)! I almost made a veggie stir-fry this morning, but I thought I’d ease you all into it with a hummus sandwich.
Now it’s Tuesday morning again, and you all know what that means – confession time!
Confessions of SE #6
1. I hate trying to please people. It is impossible to make everyone happy, which is why I don’t bother – I just try to keep myself (and obviously those closest, like Ross) happy. This is why I get cranky in professional/ educational settings when I’m forced to be a people pleaser (i.e. when a grade depends on it). Not a happy camper.
2. While I don’t have any strong political affiliation, I get very agitated when people obsess over one candidate. Whether it be in elections, or whether it be ongoing (i.e. still bashing Obama because he’s not who they voted for). There is no such thing as a perfect candidate. There are pros and cons to every candidate, and there should just be someone that you personally think may be better. But whoever gets elected to office is your President, and that is the person that you need to respect and support. Don’t even get me started on religious affiliations with politics.
3. While I am very strong in my Christian faith, I also value myself in being an intelligent, independent young woman, capable of thinking critically for myself. And going along with my beliefs, to an extent I am proud (for lack of a better word) that I can be open-minded. Maybe it’s the Religious Studies minor in me talking, but I am open-minded in the sense that I refuse to openly condemn and judge others. That is not what my faith is all about. I refuse to focus on mundane, trivial details like whether or not the tree in the White House is called the Holiday Tree or the Christmas Tree. Who cares? That’s not what faith is all about! And call me blasphemous, but separation of church and state exists for a reason. It’s how I, and many others no matter their religious affiliation, are able to worship freely as we please without condemnation.
4. To end on a positive note, I get random bouts on endless energy. It drives Ross crazy. One minute I’ll be exhausted lying on the couch, the next I am like a hyper 6-year-old jacked up on sugar. I have no idea why my energy levels get so up and down. But I’m pretty sure you all know by now that I have a little streak of crazy in me.
See you later alligators!

Amen, I can identify with all of these! Love the hummus sandwich for breakfast too, I still need to try that
Me too! (about everything)
I love eating untraditional breakfast foods in the morning– I have been known to eat avocados and carrots at 8am. I totally agree with you on all points, especially Number 1 — I think that is why I never liked school.
I am totally with you on #4 – I do that too!
AHHHH! I so feel you on 2 + 3! NOTHING and I mean NOTHING makes me angrier than obnoxious ‘religious’ people pushing their views on everyone and bashing people.
Ok, rant over. Thank you.
I love savory breakfasts too. I just now started eating sweet oats for breakfast, but there are a lot of mornings I am craving something savory instead. I have been known to make an english muffin pizza for breakfast. Yummy!
me too! on everything!
and love the untraditional breakfast…when i was in college, i used to eat leftovers from dinner the night before all the time. nice and quick!
I love #4. I have the most energy at night right before bedtime and it drives Andy absolutely insane! hahaha.
I am a huge fan of untraditional breakfasts too.
I totally agree with number 3!!!
Re 3 – YES!!!!

Glad to know I’m not the only one!
