School Rules (and Doctors Drool!)

Hi bloggies (and Grandma!)! I’m just going to skip right over breakfast (burnt Ezekiel cinnamon raisin toast) and lunch (I unfortunately kind of went right past it in my busy day!) because I have much more interesting things to talk about!

Remember that Open post? Well, after a long wait I finally went to a doctor today. Honestly, I’m not sure if I’ll be keeping this doctor as my primary care physician. Long story short, I’m getting blood work done and should hear if there’s anything funky in a couple weeks or so. However, there were several statements (relating to weight loss in a rather extreme manner) the doctor made that served as red flags to me. I don’t want to plaster it all over the blog, so if you are genuinely curious or are going through something similar yourself (or have good weight loss tips!) please send me an email through my contact page above. :)

I always am such a wimp with needles – totally had to look the opposite direction when the nurse put a hole in my arm (which is now bruised lol). Please don’t tell me I’m the only needle wuss out there!

All’s well though. When I got home, two exciting things happened. First? MY VITA-MIX ARRIVED!!! I haven’t used it yet (I was waiting for bananas to freeze to make banana softserve!) but I have so many plans for it!

What happened next was something I’ve been looking forward to for quite a while now. I finally got to meet Melissa!!!!

Melissa and I have been blog/ email/ facebook/ text buddies for quite a little while now, and I was SO excited when I learned she’d be in Gainesville to get going on her new job. I gladly offered up my couch for a couple nights for her. :)

The three of us shared some “real food” for my roadie friend. ;) Salads of spinach and cooked veggies (mushrooms, zucchini, red bell pepper, tomatoes, corn), fat free refried beans and avocado along with some baked sweet potato fries. Love!

Apparently it wasn’t very filling because we’re all hungry now! (Maybe that also has to do with my absent lunch today?). We were going to make banana soft serve but the bananas aren’t frozen yet. :( Tomorrow!

Oh by the way – announcement! Remember one of my 2010 designs was to start taking classes again and go back to school? Well it’s official – I’m starting some pre-reqs at a community college! Right now I’m only enrolled in one class, but I’m hoping to at least get one more in for this semester. :) My goal is to take more community college classes through the summer and hopefully start at UF in the fall for a secondary bachelor degree in dietetics. After 2.5-3 years I’ll finish that and pursue my masters and eventually become a Registered Dietitian! That’s the dream and the goal. :)

What is your dream? Please share – let’s all inspire each other. :)

Total needle wimp here! Not only do I have to look away, more often than not I have to put a cold towel on my head because I start feeling so faint. I’m fine with shots but can’t handle having blood drawn.

I hope you and Melissa have lots of fun!

And no, you are not the only needle wuss. I almost fainted last time I had blood drawn, and did faint the time before that…

Total wimp here too!!! Congrats on going back to school. I started back yesterday after 12 years of being away!! EEK!!! Good luck!!

I read your other post too, and I understand. I am not little, or even in shape for that matter and I feel guilty sometimes as most healthy eater bloggers are tiny active lovely ladies, and I’m not! BUT I am healthy, and I have a hard time loosing weight, I’ve tried everything, so I have just tried to accept who I am, and love myself even if I have a little extra hanging out!! ;)

    Big hugs,
    Jessica

First of all, CONGRATS on figuring your life out, as I have yet to do that. ;)

YAY for blog sleepovers! AND…hugs to you about the doctor. I know all about the bad bedside manner doctor. I am not a huge doctor person anyway, so that sucks. Gchat soon?

Sucks about the Dr. but congrats on going back to school! That is so great! My secret dream (or pipedream) is to live in Paris.

I hope everything works out with your medical tests. It is not fun playing the waiting game. You are in my thoughts!

    Hey,
I’ve been following your blog for awhile now, and I just want to let you know I LOVE IT! So inspiring. Congrats on going back to school…It takes a lot of courage to make that kind of decision.

Also, about the doctor-I’d say get a new doctor! You have an extremely healthy lifestyle. I would focus on finding out what the problem is (whether it’s thyroid or something else) and don’t change your habits.

Total needle wimp also so don’t feel bad!! Congrats on getting 1 step closer towards your dream. I’m doing the same thing and going back to school for my masters in Marketing (still waiting to hear back though about which school I got into). My dream to be an art buyer at an advertising agency one day!

Hi! I am SO scared of needles. The thought of getting a shot or blood taken makes my tummy hurt! I TOTALLY have to look the other way and take really deep breaths before shots. Uggg! I feel your pain!

Sorry to hear that the doc appointment didn’t go well. I read some of what he said on twitter… I can’t believe it. Definitely trust your gut on this one. If he’s making weird comments now, you don’t want your health to depend on him. A second opinion would be worth it!

I finally got to my comments this morning about your idea of the blog list too! I’ll email you about it! Great minds!!! :)

Congratulations on making that first step and enrolling! I’m still trying to figure out what I want to be “when I grow up” (quotes not because I’m technically “grown up” but because I never plan on growing up). I saw a little bit of the doc fiasco on Twitter – I’m so sorry you had to deal with such a jerk! And you’re definitely not the only needle wimp out there. I have NO VEINS in my arms, so they have to take blood from the back of my hand (which I don’t really mind as much – the needle is smaller!), so if there’s even a HINT that they want to try my arm, I flip out. Like, truly flip out. Embarrassing. I’d love to be able to donate blood, but NO. WAY.

yay for getting to meet Melissa! So sweet of you to lend her your couch, and I’m sure y’all are getting along great while having a blast :)

Congrats on moving closer to your dream, that’s awesome! My dream (I think) is to help change people’s lives in the field of psychology. I’m waiting to hear if I got into grad school at this point.

    Yay for meeting new friends!

My dream is to teach high school english for a few years but eventually I want to get involved in a program that encourages healthy eating for students. I’m not exactly sure how to get there but I am looking into it!

My goal is to working management. I already have a degree in healthcare (unemployed x-ray tech). So I back to school online starting MOnday for Healthcare Management. Good luck to you on your dreams. Btw, the lunch goes look yummmmmy. My guess on your hunger may be due to not having enough protein
