Good morning! In my post on the wedding we went to last weekend I had a comment asking about my makeup, as I had mentioned I had gone pretty simple for a made up day look. Well – I decided I’d show you just what I did! I think that just like lifting weights, strength workouts, cooking and baking, make up is another thing that can seem intimidating that does not have to be at all! Just play around. Just like you can play with recipes and you can always make a new one, you can play around with your make up and always wash it off and try again!
To preface, for normal everyday looks, I usually just wear a brown-black or soft black mascara (I’m blonde and have very fair skin so I prefer softer colored mascaras for my daily look). If I feel like doing a little more, I will add eye liner and/or eye shadow – eyes are my favorite to play with!
This is more of what I use for occasions like day weddings, dates with my hubby, holidays, interviews and anything that I want a more polished look for.
I love this Avon personal match foundation. It is SO lightweight, I never feel it on! It comes out of the container white and rubs in to match your complexion. This is the only foundation I’ve ever loved. I hate the hassle of trying to match foundation to my skin tone, especially when my skin tone changes so much season to season. This foundation very thinly evens everything out. Another bonus, especially with the Florida sun? It has SPF 15 in it.
The type of powder I use varies. On Saturday I used this e.l.f. (eyes lips face) clarifying pressed powder. I just used a very small amount all over my face to even things out a bit more.
Another powder I like a little better is this Cover Girl TRUblend minerals mineral loose powder. I actually used this on my wedding day, but my complexion is a little more “porcelain” right now, so my mineral loose powder was a tad too dark.
In the summer I’ll often use a light bronzer instead of or in addition to a powder to emphasize my summer glow, but I wasn’t feeling an artificial bronzer on a cold wintery “porcelain” day.
While I have several blushes, I used this particular e.l.f. Natural Radiance Blusher in Innocence. I love the subtle cheeky glow this gives you! It is so perfectly natural for my fair skin, I love it!
This color also lends itself well between different skin tones in different seasons, as it’s also the same blush I wore on my wedding day (dead of summer wedding!).
Something I love doing every day is grooming my eyebrows.
I try to stay on top of keeping my eyebrows in a fairly natural, groomed state with my tweezers, but I love taking this brush and shaping my eyebrows daily. Just an additional layer of “polish” it will give your appearance! (And yes, I know I need a new one – this particular brush has been around the block with me!)
My eyeliner choice usually varies between a black or soft black eye liner or an indigo eyeliner I picked up from Ulta. This particular eyeliner was from Avon (my aunt’s an avon representative) and is a black glimmersticks eyeliner. Currently I’m only lining my top eyelid, as it’s the look I’m currently digging.
(Tip: have some q-tips and water nearby. I love taking a damp q-tip and running it over my recently applied eyeliner, just to touch it up and make it look a little softer.)
Now my favorite place to play with make up – the eyes! I love eye shadow. I have (by far) more eye shadow than I even do nail polish. The eye shadow I pulled out on Saturday was actually the same exact eye shadow I wore on my wedding day. I use it a lot and actually need some more! It’s another e.l.f. product, Matte Mauve brightening eye color quad.
Mascaras I go back and forth over. Currently my “dressy” mascara is Maybelline Lash Stiletto mascara in Very Black. I like it, but I think I may like the Cover Girl Lash Blast mascara a little more (I used that on my wedding day, waterproof of course
).
The final look (shown here with a simple Aveeno Essential Moisture Lip Conditioner with SPF 15 – my current daily chap stick. I believe the lip color I wore on my wedding day was Maybelline Superstay Lip Color).
And for reference, my wedding day makeup:
Other notes – I’ve actually gotten a couple emails on skin care, and honestly I feel that the best routine you can get into for skin care is drinking lots of water and eating plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables! I have probably the lowest-maintenance skin care routine ever. I simply wash (usually twice a day) with Clean and Clear Oil-Free Daily Pore Cleanser. I’ve used this for years. I love the tiny “micro-scrubbers” in it that make it a gentle exfoliater as well.
I actually don’t use a daily moisturizer currently, as I haven’t found one that’s lightweight enough for me. My skin is really sensitive so many moisturizers, even ones that claim to be oil-free tend to make me look greasy.
You probably saw that I mentioned e.l.f. (eyes lips face) make up several times. While I haven’t ordered any recently (still using up my last supply!) I had a bit of a love affair with e.l.f. products the summer I got married. Most of their make up products are $1 each. I know! Basic blushes, foundations, eye shadows, lip glosses, even make up brushes – $1 each. They have other products, like mineral make ups and tools like Kabuki brushes and studio brushes for $3, $5-$8 each. Definitely much cheaper than you can find elsewhere! They also used to run great promotions and deals (haven’t checked recently, but a simple Google search for e.l.f. makeup coupon codes could probably find something for you!). I definitely recommend you checking the site out!
So there you have it. How I put my day glow face on.
It’s completely honest. I don’t always use the most organic, natural (expensive) products. I can’t usually afford it, and I honestly don’t use a “big” makeup routine like this often enough to warrant trying lots of expensive new products. These are things I’ve been using for years. Who knows how many bottles of that face wash I’ve gone through by now!
Any other random questions? It’s been fun to switch things up for the morning from the standard healthy living posts. But hey, technically this is still healthy living – looking extra beautiful should be a part of every healthy woman’s knowledge repertoire.

awww I LOVE THIS! I loved your wedding make up and the simple look as well. I have ordered from e.l.f in the past. LOVE. Right now though, I am hooked on bare minerals. It’s so freaking amazing, no kidding. Also, I have that lash stiletto…love it. I have used it for about a year. I only go maybelline with my mascaras. I used great lash forever until I switched to stiletto. Probably wouldn’t have switched, but I picked it up for a ‘weekend’ mascara [great lash is more for everyday] and loved it.
Epic comment, but I have not commented in a while, so it was due. LOVE YA!
Fun post! Thanks for the tip on the e.l.f makeup- bargains are definitely a good thing
I love makeup and hearing about how everyone does it!
Love the make up recommendations! I noticed in the photos you posted how nice your nails are too haha. What do you do to keep them so nice? Mine always seem to get soft and won’t grow very long. Were your nails natural on your wedding day or did you have tips on? Anyway.. they look really great & natural!
Your wedding pic is absolutely gorgeous, Linds!
PS: When I saw the title of this post, I thought of “Day Glo” (ie: neon green and orange, etc)… I like your “day glow” makeup much better!
Thanks for sharing makeup tips! I always need assistance in that area…I’m very plain when it comes to putting makeup on so it’s hard to get creative when I’m in the mood.
Your pictures are beautiful!
