Black Beans are Back

Good evening! Thank you again for all of the prayers for Pap. My grandma just sent me an email, and she loved it and was incredibly touched. Thank you all!

In complete other news, Ross and I have come to an official conclusion: we are boring old farts. Seriously. Apologies in advance, because being boring old farts makes for poor blog fodder. ;)

I do have some exciting news, though! In the midst of errands we stopped at Subway for lunch and I discovered that Subway (at least this particular one) has a vegetarian/ vegan protein source: black beans! Black bean subs are back! (I didn’t even know they ever had black bean subs before?) I was pretty excited, because typically I basically get plain veggies on wheat bread, and while tasty, it is not filling. This time there was more substance there and it actually gave me some staying power! Subway, if you’re listening, this vegan hopes black bean subs are back and here to stay!

I also shared some of the drink and Sun Chips Ross got as part of his meal.

This afternoon was spent for both of his dealing with website templates, coding, blah blah blah. Needless to say, it was exhilarating. When we finally had dinner something simple was on the menu. I made us hummus and  tomato grilled sandwiches, leftover simple lentil soup and Averie’s cheesy kale chips (loved them!). I actually lost my appetite after the sandwich though. Hmm, must have been that afternoon snack of super charge me cookies…whoops!

Now I need your help for an important decision: which fabric to choose? We’re going to reupholster our dining room chairs and can’t decide on a fabric. You can check out the dining room set (cherry wood) and our general home “decor” in our apartment tour post. We have a lot of blues and greens in our home and really like these two fabrics.

So, the question is: Green Paisley or Robin’s Egg Jacobian? Cast your votes! (P.S. Cost is the same for both, so that’s not an influence!)

I vote for the blue! Then again, i don’t know what the rest of your house looks like, so I don’t know what would be best in the matching sense :)

I like the green!!! Its warm and inviting! Plus green looks better with/as food. Its ok, we are old farts too. Our friday/Saturday nights usually consist of a home cooked food (as every night) plus a movie or other home-body type thing…. mostly b/c we can’t afford to go out to eat (pizza hut is about as fancy as we get)….and we are surrounded by hip trendy clubs/bars. Not our thing! We are perfectly happy staying in…. our together time is the best :) I’m sure you too feel the same way… weeks are so hectic.

Hi Lindsay, thanks for telling me you made the kale chips (i dont get pings :( ) but glad they’re workin for you! And yes, hours later at 200 F or low oven w/ door ajar is the name of the game!

I love the blue, as it reminds me of my new grayish blue duvet from west elm I just scored :)

Ooo, I definitely vote for the green, I think it would look nice and rich with the cherry wood. Also, in my head – once you’re potentially out of apartments and into a place where you can paint the walls, the deeper green can hold it’s own against any sort of wall colour. Haha, in my head. Maybe I’m just a sucker for green? Both are really beautiful fabrics, though! :)

I love the green! It looks like there is a lot more blue in the apartment, so the green might be a little different? Have fun on this project together! :)

Black beans at SWay? GRR..for living in Oz. Canned BB are 4.70. Gotta make em’ from scratch here.

I say the blue/robin egg one. Great contrast to the dark tones of cherry wood.

I vote green, but I want to admit that I am really biased as I LOVE green. My wedding was green, my tablecloth and couch are green, and I bring as many green accents (living plants) into the home as possible. Still, I think green is fresh, clean, would work well with the cherry wood in the dining room (I have light green with mine and it’s beautiful) and would move well into any room with windows in the future because green pulls the outdoors into the home. You can decorate VERY cheaply with real or faux plants to tie the nature-y theme in more–Target has some beautiful fake plants with their Smith & Hawken line, and real plants (make sure you check the sun level that is required before you buy!!) are also inexpensive and fun to have in the house. Plus, you already have blue in the bedroom, so it would be a nice contrast.

These decisions are hard! We just decided to get (from a friend) a new entertainment set. I am a little nervous to get it because I’m not 100% sure I will like it in our space. I think I could just use a tasteful friend to decorate my place for me :)

My vote is the robins egg. The green pattern is too busy for me. I like simple and elegant. The blue fits that.

Ooooh, I hope the Subways here get the black beans! My vote is for the blue fabric.

I’m crossing my fingers that the Subways here get some black beans pronto! And I vote GREEN!

I like them both. My living room/dining are decorated in both of those colors. I think the blue is my favorite, but it’s close.

I meant to tell you that I finally made your cookies–amazing! My husband said they are the best vegan chocolate chip cookies I’ve ever made. Thanks so much!

Tough choice on the fabric. I love that shade of blue, but I like the paisley print better. I guess you just can’t go wrong!

I didn’t know they ever had black bean subs! That’s great! I’m definitely going to try one!

My initial vote was for the Robin’s Egg blue but then I realized that the fabric will just be covering the seat of the chair, so the smaller print of the green might be better. So my completely non-helpful non-vote is that I like the blue more, but I think the smaller print of the green will be better for chair seats.

Definitely voting green, not a huge pastel blue fan! :) I think the green brings a warmth to it as well. Love that color green with dark browns.
