Not Always Perfect

Thank you all so much for your positive feedback about my heart to heart confession post this morning. I wanted to thank every one of you who commented because I appreciate that everyone was able to be tactful, courteous and more while still expressing their individual feelings. You ladies rock! But of course we already knew that. ;)

So today was the perfect example that I, specifically my eats and cooking abilities, aren’t always perfect. (Not that they ever were but they were immensely far from it today!).

Breakfast was intended to be a toasted hummus and tomato sandwich, one of my favorite savory meals. Unfortunately….well, I’ll let the photo speak for itself.

Let’s just say someone may have gotten distracted by the Olympics coverage on the Today show and someone may not have realized their pan was so hot. This someone was also the only one home at the time. This someone is also currently regarding herself in the third person and shall now stop.

Dang Olympics. First they’re interfering with my studying, blogging (notice the evening posts have been later recently?) and sleeping, but they’re burning my food and scarring my kitchen utensils! There was indeed a casualty in the Big Burn of 2010. My cobalt blue Kitchen Aid spatula (that matches all my cobalt blue kitchen things!) will forever be marred.

Oops.

Fortunately there weren’t any other casualties today, but there may have been some biased food decisions.

Exhibit A: I’m a sucker for good marketing, especially pertaining to the environment.

When I first saw the commercial for the Sun Chips new 100% compostable packaging I was very impressed. Today I had to visit WalMart to pick up a couple things, and when I saw the new packages I just had to pick it up. Our purchases and where we spend our money are votes, and I vote for more 100% compostable packaging everywhere!

Exhibit B of biased food decisions? I was starving when I went to Walmart – like lunch eaten at 2:00 and Walmart was before lunch hungry. This may have also influenced my decision that a quick meal of Sun Chips and leftover soup from last night was perfect for lunch…

Anyway, all’s well that ends well and today was no exception! Workout was great (P90X Plyo, what what! Have I mentioned on here that there’s a guy with a prosthetic leg who does plyometrics on the dvd?! Seriously ridic. If he can do it, I most certainly can!). Dinner was a bit on the lazy side (like I said, my cooking’s not always perfect…or even existent today!).

I had one more item from French Meadow Bakery that I tried (these products I’ve tried for them were all for free with coupons the company sent me to use to review their products). Hemp Tortillas!

Ingredients:
Filtered water, organic wheat flour, organic vital wheat gluten, organic whole wheat flour, hempseed flour, organic flax meal, dates, organic oat fiber, organic poppy seeds, organic millet flour, organic pumpkin kernel meal, hemp seeds, contains less than 2% of the following: organic sprouted Kamut® Khorasan wheat berries, organic sprouted spelt berries (wheat), sea salt, organic sprouted wheat berries, organic sprouted barley, organic sprouted amaranth berries, organic sprouted quinoa, leavening (sodium acid pyrophosphate, baking soda, monocalcium phosphate), organic guar gum, organic chili powder, organic garlic powder, organic onion powder, organic cayenne pepper.

*Percent Daily Values are based on a 2,000 calorie diet.

**Note: For some reason, the nutrition facts on the website (where the above information came from) is different than what’s on the package. The package says  that each tortilla is 120 calories and has 8 grams of protein. Not sure which is right? I’d assume the package, but I could be wrong.

Anyway, I used one of the awesome, delicious hemp tortillas as a vessel for an equally delicious dinner. We made simple wraps and mine contained roasted red pepper hummus, alfalfa sprouts, butter leaf lettuce, tofu (cooked in a smidge of olive oil, kosher salt and lime juice), vegan cheeze (Vegan Gourmet brand!), and a couple thin slices of avocado.

Quite tasty! After I’d already put the camera away Ross and I enjoyed some cherry-banana soft serve (simply blend 2 frozen bananas and a cup of frozen cherries in a food processor or high power blender, like my VitaMix!)

Fortunately I did take a pretty pineapple picture to make up for the nasty burned pictures earlier. :)

Thanks again to French Meadow Bakery for allowing me to try these Hemp Tortillas, as well as the Hemp Bagels and Flax and Sunflower Seed Bread that I reviewed, too. Check out their site, they have something for everyone! (Further incentive for you to check it out – there are coupons on their site!) :D

I watched the Sunchips commercial and proclaimed to my husband “That would actually colour my decision on what chips to buy – that is so cool!” I do expect to see a bag of Sunchips in my future!
