Hey heyyyy!
Three cheers for Thursday being over, aka the end of my work week!!!
I’m not excited, not at all….
Today started out on a very reluctant foot. I was so tired! Unfortunately that did not make Yoga X go very well. I think Ross and I were both battling a bug or something the past couple days because we both felt so off! I broke into child’s pose quite frequently this morning, especially during the vinyasa half, because I kept getting nauseas, hot and dizzy (and this was with the fan on, the patio door to 39 degree weather open and in a sports bra!). Definitely listened to my body and took it relatively easy.
Breakfast was rather odd. It was pretty late for me (around 9:30AM) and I had leftovers to use up, so I used ‘em up! Last night’s quinoa with black beans and veggies and scoop of hummus, back in action.
As I mentioned on twitter this morning, my eating schedules on Thursdays are so weird. I usually try to eat breakfast around 7:00-7:30 (which was why today’s 9:30 was so late) and then I have to leave for work by 11:30, so lunch is usually around 11:00 to 11:30. Then at work I’m crazy busy and usually have no time to break for food. If I’m wearing jeans I stick a larabar in my back pocket, but I may not always have time to eat it, depends on the night. I come home late and dinner is usually between 8:00-8:30.
Anyway, all that to say that sometimes you just have to channel your inner Tim Gunn and make it work. You don’t have to have the perfect schedule and perfect opportunities to make healthy choices! Even if it seems like things are working against you (i.e. not being able to eat for eight hours) you can still empower yourself to take healthy steps!
One such step today was my Super Health Nut Chocolate Shake as my lunch before work. This baby has some serious staying power to it! I only ate it a couple hours after my bigger "breakfast" but the combination of everything had me hungry, but not starving, when I got home. I actually had energy and didn’t have to break into my emergency larabar tonight! This smoothie/ shake is amazing!
"Shake" recipe found here: http://www.soundeats.com/2010/02/21/studiously-snackalicious-sunday/
(I used 1 cup frozen cherries, 2 T. sunflower seeds, 1 T. cocoa powder, 1 T. chocolate brown rice protein powder, 1 c. unsweetened almond milk, lots of spinach!)
Dinner featured another soup the lovely folks at Dr. McDougall’s sent me – their Black Bean Soup.
Like all of their products that I’ve tried so far the Nutrition Facts are always great with the exception of the sodium.
I’m still a HUGE fan of the convenience of these real food, vegan soups though! For some reason I wasn’t expecting the brown rice in the soup (I think I just automatically think of Panera’s black bean soup when I think of black bean soup) but I really enjoyed it! It gave it a bit more heartiness.
I’m sorry this picture isn’t more awesome – I was battling some serious steam (you don’t even want to know the lengths I took to blow away steam, hold the spoon and take a picture – rather comical!).
We also had delicious, chewy, doughy potato rolls! I love whole grains and multi grains, but doughy white breads will always hold a soft spot in my heart (and a soft spot in my tummy?! hahaha, I crack myself up!)
I also had some steamed spinach and some crispy tofu (cooked in a drizzle of EVOO and kosher salt) to amp up the veg and protein.
All together!
Ross wanted me to show you the pretty little sandwiches he made to go with his soup. I must admit – they look tasty!
Alright friends, time to go to bed! Have a great night and don’t forget to enter the MaraNatha giveaway! Winner coming next time I post!!
