Good morning! My appetite is kind of wonky this morning, so I just stuck with a good ol’ tummy stabilizing standby – toast! Not just any toast though, my newly obsessed-with gluten free Foods for Life brand millet bread. So tasty! Yes they’re small and on the high calorie side for bread of that size (this pictures below are on a salad plate and each piece is 100 calories).
One piece I topped with Artisana’s coconut butter and cinnamon. I am growing obsessed with this coconut butter, and I may have to buy some when my little sample jar is out! (haha, there’s only a tablespoon in the jar but I am s t r e t c h i n g it out! I’ve already gotten three uses out of it and have more than half left!)
The other piece I topped with MaraNatha almond butter and some Polaner apricot fruit spread.
Just to keep it clear and in case you missed previous posts, both the MaraNatha and Artisana were products the companies sent me to try.
Apparently my camera was feeling wonky just like my stomach this morning! Sorry for the blurry pictures, it’s dark outside and our dining room/ living room light just blew.
It’s been a while since we had a good ol’ Confessions of Sound Eats morning, but why not bring it back for a Tuesday morning throwback?
1. There’s a fountain outside the office window at work and when they have it on I can’t drink water, because the sound of the fountain already makes me have to pee all day long. Torture!
2. I am a Christian, but I get really irritated when churches are seemingly judgmental in their messages. At one service I went to over the weekend, the pastor managed to bash musicians (which I am, my degree is in music) because we’re usually too attention-seeking, he bashed blogs, he bashed twitter, and of course there was the cliché bashing of alcohol. Guess I shouldn’t invite him over to a blogging, tweeting, musical wine night?
In all seriousness though, it really does break my heart because someone could go to a service like that and get the complete wrong message about the Christian faith. This is why I focus on the spiritual and relational side of faith instead of religion. Religion gets in the way and causes problems. Just my 0.02!
3. I squealed when I realized how soon New Moon is coming out on DVD.
(March 20th!)
4. We’re canceling our cable! I’ve been talking about it for ages but Ross just got on board recently. There are so many better ways to spend our time, and things we already do that aren’t tv-related (i.e. blogging and reading blogs and books, games, going for long evening walks, and more). About 90% of the shows we watch are on the basic “freebie” channels anyway, so we’ve basically just been paying about $60 a month for two channels we like (USA and Food Network). FN is usually a background tv station, and USA shows we like we can find on hulu. We’ll save money from cable and we’ll save money from not having the tv on in the background. It’s an easy win-win!
Do you have cable? Why or why not can you see yourself ever living/ not living without it?

We cancelled our cable. I love it! I can watch most shows on hulu.com. Funny thing is we still get cable. We have old school cable – not digital. I think our cable company thinks we have digital though. With digital they can cancel it on their end. Really they need to come to our house and disconnect. Oh well! Yay for free TV LOL!
I’m a wine drinking music lovin’ Christian too! It gets worse… I love musical theater! AHHHH!!!!
My hubby and I canceled our cable over a year ago. We just hooked an old laptop to our TV and watch our shows with Hulu.com. It’s like having a DVR! love it!
My hubby and I couldn’t live without our football and basketball games. I think we probably save money by watching the game at home with friends rather than going to bars.
This post really made me smile. I’m another alcohol-in-moderation-supporting, music blasting, blogging Christian! That service would have made me tense too. Things like that support my decision not to stress less about not belonging to a denomination, instead just focusing on my own walk. Since I made the decision -not- to beat myself up about that, I’ve grown a lot. Nice to know there are others who have similar outlooks
I had a very similar breakfast this morning – two slices of the same millet toast with some AB & banana slices. I love how chewy that bread gets when toasted – it’s almost creamy? Just don’t eat it cold, I brought a sandwich to work and the bread just fell apart after one bite.
I just squealed too about New Moon! I didn’t know it was that soon, can you believe I haven’t seen it yet?? My husband is anti-movie theater.
I’m going to preface what I’m going to say by admitting the following: I am a preacher’s kid. My dad has been a Christian pastor for all but 3 years of my life. I find that churches in general are VERY hypocritical and VERY judgemental. There aren’t any exceptions. There might be some really great people in these churches but most of the people who are in leadership are the worst offenders. I would have loved to have a conversation with that pastor after service so he could elaborate and “enlighten” me.
Good for you on the cable decision. I doubt my husband will EVER be there but I keep hoping. Love your blog and enjoy reading it every day.
unfortunately I have to agree with that. I definitely don’t think all churches are like that, as there was actually one particular church Ross and I went to that was SO welcoming and open and “with it” with today’s culture, and the focus was NOT on religion at all. It was an amazing church and unfortunately it’s why it’s so hard for us to find a church now!
Thanks for reading!
that is so crazy to me that you could live without cable but so awesome! i am addicted to tv…especially crappy reality shows. i need mtv, e! and bravo. ha it is kinda sad but i do try to save shows on dvr for a lazy day which i guess is better then being glued to the tv every night!
i watch less than 1 hr of tv per week and it’s the real housewives or something similar. the oscars and the best dressed list? I serioulsy had NO IDEA who those women were. It’s just not me anymore. I dont care and dont watch anything..i read food blogs…
and i read on HEABs post that you make coconut butter in your vita. Do tell. I am scared that its just gonna be coconut flakes flying everywhere??!! How much do you put in like 1 or 2 cups? What speed/how long? Tamp down, scape down? Any deets you could provide? I have sweetened grocery store coconut flakes; they are not fancy or “dehydrated” or unsweeteed. They were the 1.99/bag baker’s coconut flakes for baking with.
Sorry to ramble but I so want to make coconut butter!
Yes! I was so excited about HEAB’s post today! I used around 1.5 cups of unsweetened coconut (although I’m sure any kind of coconut flakes would work, I think it’s the fact that it’s still from the meat of the coconut that matters). I just dumped it into the VitaMix and let it go! I have the 5200 with variable speed, so I kept the speed around 5-6 the whole time. Once or twice I stopped it to push some stuff down the sides but I found that it was actually a lot easier than I thought, and the coconut “liquified” a lot faster than I thought it would.
Hope that helps!
My husband is dying to cut cable but I’m not ready to take the plunge. I still like to watch some shows on E! and bravo…trash basically. I do spend a lot of time on my computer, but I still watch some tv.
haha yeah, I rediscovered lifetime today. Perfect when we will no longer have cable soon! Oh well…better for my general productivity?
I have cable but just basic. I have some shows I watch but can always watch them online but keep it for noise in the background and for the internet that comes with it. When I had the cable box with 100+ channels and DVR, it was $130 a month which I refused to pay that much for it.
Oh my gosh, I wish I could get my husband to cancel cable, that would be a huge cut in our expenses! I could totally live without it but I don’t know that he could, ha ha.
I appreciate what you said about churches. I feel the same way too, that I’m more spiritual and relational in my Christian faith. Religion gives Jesus a bad name. Some religious people do too.
I consider myself non-denominational. But I’m lucky to have found a church where at least the leadership has it right, at least it seems that way to me. We still have those people who believe the same way that pastor does, but they are the minority.
