Out of This Galaxy!

Hey friends! Apologies for being MIA since posting the winners of the Beachbody Giveaway yesterday (which, Noelle, I still need you to email me your address!). I got sidetracked with doing a little spring cleaning here on Sound Eats – if you’re reading from a reader, hop on over to check out my new theme, Headway. LOVE it! I have never used a theme that has given me so much freedom in the customization of my blog, not to mention the fact that Sound Eats has never looked so clean! Despite the visual appeal, I think the biggest advantage of it was that I was actually able to enjoy working on the customization of my blog, and not get stressed and have to google how to do different things! (Please email if you have any questions about Headway, I’d love to talk with you about why I chose it as a Premium Theme!). More of a makeover will commence later, I have a few other things up my sleeve. ;)

Besides my feelings for Headway, what else is out of this galaxy? Galaxy Granola, the granola that has inspired the Fruit Not Fat movement!

I have to say, I was a little confused when I came home to the package, because for the life of me I could not remember being contacted by a PR rep to sample apples?!

Well, the reason it says "6 Tasty Apples Inside!" is because Galaxy Granola is made using fruits and fruit juices to sweeten and crisp the granola, not fat. There is the equivalent of two apples in each bag of granola!

I tried the first granola on top of a smoothie yesterday, Not Sweet Vanilla

Wow. I promise you I am not just saying this because I was sent these products for free, but this granola was phenomenal. To be honest I did not have the highest expectations for this fruit-based granola, because up until yesterday most fruit and not fat-based granolas I’ve tried have been less than memorable. Galaxy Granola is a different story. It’s light, it’s not overly sweet, and it’s so crispy and airy and delicious. Ross and I both loved it! (His quote when I asked for his input right now: "had a nice crunch and was highly flavorful and was not overly sweet" — promise I didn’t tell him what I wrote before he said that, lol!)

Today I tried the Raspberry flavor on a smoothie.

Look at these beautiful freeze-dried raspberries!

Same deal – awesome granola, just had a bit of a tangy fruit contrast with the dried raspberries. I can’t wait to try the other flavor I was sent, Vanilla Almond! (And can we pause a minute to talk about how awesome the Cranberry Orange granola sounds?! I need! Ever since my first bite I’ve been praying to find myself with a lifetime supply of this granola. I need it in my stores!)

Granola aside, the smoothie base this morning was pretty good, too!

To make smoothies for both Ross and I, I blended:

  • 2 frozen bananas
  • 1 cup frozen blueberries
  • 1.5 cups unsweetened almond milk
  • 1 Tablespoon chocolate brown rice protein powder
  • spinach
  • 1 Tablespoon chia seeds
  • ice

They came out so creamy and SO sweet from the banana! I also loved the addition of chia seeds.

These little suckers (yes, the same ones in your ch-ch-ch-chia pets, although those ones aren’t FDA approved) are such a nutritional powerhouse. Some highlights:

  • hydrophilic properties (they can absorb up to 12 times their weight in water!) which helps your body prolong hydration
  • helps slow the conversion of carbohydrates into sugar, creating endurance, stabilizing metabolic changes, and reducing the high and low surges some foods give
  • they’re digested and absorbed very easily
  • one of the richest plant sources for essential omega-3 fatty acids
  • protein source
  • rich source of calcium
  • full of antioxidants
  • great fiber source
  • used by the Aztecs to relieve joint pain and skin conditions
  • can be stored for long periods of time without going rancid
  • does not need to be ground to be digested (unlike flax seeds)
  • and more!

(those were all found with a short and simple search on google).

(Also to note – I did not receive this to sample, I purchased these on my own accord from Chia Seeds Direct, since they have fast, free shipping and a great price.)

Anyway! The rest of the day was full of errands and snacks, our favorite being Stacy’s Multigrain Pita Chips and Publix Hummus. Does it get any better as far as snacks go?!

Dinner was two different leftovers re-used in a different way. I had some pizza dough in the fridge that Ross rolled out, and that I then topped with leftover Vegan Tofu Scramble, vegan feta cheese, salsa and vegan monterey jack on my half and regular mozzarella on his half.

We baked it on our pizza stone for 12 minutes at 425 degrees and each had a couple slices.

So good! You know what else I’m hoping will be equally good (out of this galaxy good)?! This dessert I baked. Full recipe coming at you tomorrow, because I have to have some reason to make y’all come back! ;)

Time for this galaxy-long post to end! That’s what happens when I spend my time fixing up the blog instead of actually blogging!

We’re off to watch Up in the Air and New Moon. Fun movie night, for sure! What are you doing tonight?
