Survey Time

Hey friends! I’m in the middle of a busy night both packing up our home and packing for our North Carolina trip (with So You Think You Can Dance on in the background of course!) so I figured this would be the perfect time to get some information from you all. Survey time!!

I gab on and on about myself all the time here at Sound Eats, but I really want to learn more about you! So if you’ve got a moment, I’d love to hear your responses to these questions. If I get enough response back, I may throw in a batch of my Breakfast Power Bars to one lucky lady or gent. ;)

  1. Who are you?!? Lady or gent? Age? Job? Offspring? Where are you spacially located? If we were friends on facebook, what would I see as your relationship status?
  2. What do you love? Hobby? Recipes? Sports? Favorite blogs? TV shows?
  3. Why do you come to Sound Eats and what do you want to see here? Pretty self explanatory, but seriously – what do you want from me? (Cue Adam Lambert singing.) What are your favorite posts? What don’t you get enough of? What have you had enough of?
  4. Random! Whatever the heck you want to share, please do. Do you have something you need to get off your chest? An embarrassing moment to share? A consuming fear? Something hysterical your significant other or child just did? (I’ll go first. I’m deeply afraid my husband and I will get stranded going up the mountain to the cabin on Friday. His truck and my dinky little Elantra don’t have 4WD and I’m scurred.)

Also, because a post isn’t a post without a picture, here’s what happened three years ago today.

Engagement (62)

Someone put a ring on it.

Negative on the google image! Ross had a friend hiding out in the bushes to take that picture at the exact moment he popped the question. :) I know, right?!

Also, when you go to SA and Russia, I’ll try to fit into your luggage. ;)

I love Sound Eats because I like your “voice.” You’re very honest about what is going on with your life & I find that refreshing. And I love your food pics!

Random: Sometimes I wish I was a flight attendant so that I could continously travel & stay in hotels. I almost always get sad when leaving a vacation, like seriously sad.

    2. I love making muffins and kind of cannot stop doing it. I have been on a reading binge since graduating college (doing it for FUN, yay!) and have decided that I can't visit all the countries I want to (since there are like a bazillion) so I have to read about them.
    3. I like the point of view you have in your blog. And when you share yummy and healthful recipes.
    4. I am kind of obsessed with this website:
    http://www.beforeyouwerehot.com/
It's a gift to the children of the world.

    July 7, 2010 | 11:46 pm

    1. My name is Lindsay, I live in a town called Normal, even though I am not sure how “normal” the people are that live in the town I do. I am a full-time student and I am majoring in Actuarial Science. I am so excited to get done with college, but I am only a sophmore so I have some time to go.
    2. I love shopping, exercising, and baking. If I ever have free time, you will probably see me at the gym taking one of my favorite classes.
    3. I love seeing all of the impressive recipes you conjure up. I would love to see more about how your body is being effected by eating meat again. I am currently having to eat large amounts of meat because of blood issues.
    4. I think an interesting thing about me, is that even though I am 20 years old… I hate going to sleep without my parents at home(I still live at home w/ my parents).

    • soundeats
      July 7, 2010 | 11:55 pm

I love that you live in a town called Normal. It’s like it’s destined to be a quirky town full of quirky people!

Great idea – I can definitely touch on the eating meat again in a future post. The short of it is, it’s been great. I’m definitely doing meat in moderation and honestly I just eat what I want now. The only thing I personally have to be careful of is dairy, just because of personal sensitivities to it.

Also – I hate going to bed when the hubby isn’t home. :( There’s a night in the future when he’ll be out of town and I’m not looking forward to being alone. :(

      July 8, 2010 | 12:08 am

I get it! It’s our mutual love of chocolate that makes my blog appealing. ;)

And I have to say that your comment about your brother had me cracking up. Glad I could help you get some things off your chest. ;) (Besides – I imagine it would be rare for a little teenage brother to not be an a-hole at times!)

    i have a hard time resisting a survey :)

    1. female-jen, 28, married for 3 yrs with a 7 month old daughter (abbey) who has completely taken over our life-in a good way! grad from Texas A&M in ’04 and have been working in the social services field but am currently staying at home with abbey-we’ll see what happens in the next 6 mnths with work.
    2. LOVE to bake, enjoying reading and i find it really interesting to learn about other people’s lives (which is prob why i love blogs so!)
    3. new reader but love the recipes, i also found it interesting that you are moving to jax to go to UNF which is my husband’s home town and alumni
    4. i think about food ALL the time. seriously, last night while laying in bed i asked my husband if he thought it was odd that i was thinking about what i could have for breakfast while trying to fall asleep. also, i’m a terrible speller but i really don’t care to fix the problem.

    • soundeats
      July 8, 2010 | 11:11 am

haha I’m the same way with being interested in other people’s lives. I’m that person that when I people watch, I love making up stories about what’s going on in their life, and who they are. I think that’s one of the things that can be attractive about bloggers – people can learn a lot about someone they don’t know!

lol and I think about food a lot too. I’m always thinking of new recipes, new ways to use leftovers, etc. :) I think it’s normal. ;)

    3. I enjoy your blog. :) You are a real person and I love your food philosophy. I am also married to a teacher, so we have that in common. :)

    4. Random? Goodness, I am drawing a blank. I’ll think of something….

    • soundeats
      July 8, 2010 | 11:13 am

Oh fun! What does your husband play/ sing? When my husband and I met we were actually really involved in music. He was majoring in music ed at the time and I was majoring in music performance!

      Thanks for reading SE! :)

      • Emily
        July 8, 2010 | 3:37 pm

He plays the tuba. He has his bachelor’s in Music Ed and his Master’s in Tuba Performance. He is very, very talented and competed internationally. (Proud wife!) He chose to go the education route because he loves teaching, as well. And it is much more conducive to having a family than performing for a living. He does play in a professional brass quintet, and solo as well.

We met in our college marching band, so I’m a “band nerd” LOL, too! :)

    July 8, 2010 | 9:51 am

    1. Who are you?!? I am Jessica, and most definitely a lady. I’m 22 and I will be heading to university in the fall to finish my teaching degree (I just graduated with an honours degree in history this spring). I’m only 22, so no kids yet!!! Spacially speaking I’m located in the greater Toronto area in Canada. As far as facebook goes I’d be “in a relationship” with my bf of 3 (almost 4) years.

    2. What do you love? I love all my favourite blogs…and their are a lot of them. I also love me some loaded oats, raisins, chocolate, pizza, goat cheese and having a good hair day.
    3. Why do you come to Sound Eats and what do you want to see here?
Lately my fave post was the Pantry Challenge. I enjoy blogs that do the pantry inventory, grocery hauls and stuff like that. I love the creativity in your recipes and love them too!
    4. Random!
In Toronto for the next few weeks is Summerlicious, which a whole bunch of awesome restaurants (and some not so awesome) set a prix fixe menu for lunch and/or dinner. I’m hoping to go to as many as possible either with my bf or alone…and hopefully going alone will happen a lot! The bf isn’t much of a foodie!

    4. Chicago has been over 90 and humid as hell for the past 4 days and all I’ve done is complain. Yet I’m leaving for Hilton Head, SC on Saturday (where it will be even hotter) and I literally can’t wait.

  15. alison
    July 8, 2010 | 11:34 am

I’m Alison. I’m 33, a stay-at-home mom to an 8 1/2 yr old named Caroline, and have been married for nearly 14 years. Yes, I married YOUNG. My husband is in the Army and we’ve lived in six different states. We call Northern Virgina home….for the time being. Hawaii was my favorite place to live, but living outside of DC has its perks, too.

I LOVE to bake, read and exercise. I love fresh fruits and veggies, bleu cheese, dark chocolate and crunchy peanut butter. I eat mostly healthy foods, but have an unfortunate love for Diet Pepsi and ice cream. I blog about my own mundane life and copious “quirks” and love to read healthy living/food blogs. I find them inspiring and motivating.

I come to Sound Eats because you seem like a genuinely nice, caring, upbeat person. I like your food posts, but am equally happy to hear about what is going on in your life. Just call me Nosy Rosy! Also, reading your blog reminds me of the joy and excitement of being newly married.

Random? Hmm. Well, I’m not very interesting, so it’s hard for me to think of something. However, I’ve NEVER honked my horn at another person while driving. That’s sort of random, right? I’m terrified of snakes. I’m currently visiting my parents in Florida and encountered two dead baby snakes on my run yesterday morning. Yuck!

    This was fun!

  16. Cynthia (It All Changes)
    July 8, 2010 | 12:07 pm

    1. Who are you?!? Cynthia, Married to Hunni, two dogs that act like kids and I’m a pastor in the Berkshire Mountains for The Salvation Army. And I’m a nut so that’s me.
    2. What do you love? I’m a quilter who is a reality TV junkie. Yes the two mix because I zone out while quilting to watch things like Real Housewives :-) I love to cook fancy sounding food that doesn’t take that long like Barley Asparagus Risotto.
    3. Why do you come to Sound Eats and what do you want to see here? I love the honesty of your recipes and life. Just a sneak peek into why others eat the way they do. I guess I’m a kind of voyeur.

  17. Kelly
    July 8, 2010 | 12:40 pm

    1. I’m Kelly, I’m 26 and I’m a manager/buyer at a local toy store in Madison, WI. I just got married last winter and no offspring yet, just a dog and a cat :)
    2. I love all kinds of art and animals, and I’m beginning to really get into pilates and yoga. I just started to blog, and I think I love that too. :)
3.I’m a fairly new reader, but I always like blogs that are honest, have fun and have their own voice. Great recipes are always a plus.
4.I’m pretty sure if everyone in the world owned a pug it would be a much happier place. Just looking at her goofy face in the morning makes me smile. :)

  18. Meredith (Pursuing Balance)
    July 8, 2010 | 1:11 pm

    1. I’m Meredith, a 26 year old living in Gainesville for the summer but moving to St. Pete in August to start my dietetic internship at the VA.
    2. I LOVE: reading, swingsets, taking walks, and animals.
    3. I come to Sound Eats because I love your recipes and reading about different outings you have and just what’s going on in your life! I like that you seem to have such a positive outlook.
    4. Here is my random fear: getting lost. Logically, I know that I can just ask for directions but I feel such panic at the thought of getting lost, as if I will be lost forever and never found!

  19. Enya
    July 9, 2010 | 5:52 pm

    1) I’m Ksenija, 22 years old (23 on 15th of July), female. I’m student on faculty of socialn work in Slovenia, Europe. I have a boyfriend (for 2 years, I found it in Miami altough he’s from Slovenia too ;) .
    2) I love traveling around the Europe (you can never see everything…), driving bicycle, saving memories in my photo albums … I love to read blogs (about health, sport, nutrition …) and have my own too (but it’s in Slovene, so I won’t post a link ;) .
Favourite TV shows: Desperate housewives, True Blood, and movie: Sex in the city (1&2)!! Just came home from cinema =)
    3) I come to Sound Eats because of nice photos, delicious recepies and good ideas about meals. I like that you post pics from your life, not just food (this can become obsessive…). You’re my motivation for healthy living too! So, thank you!! =)

  20. Anna @ OatsNBoats
    July 9, 2010 | 10:02 pm

Let’s see – to start off I’m Anna, a 28 year old girl? woman? (who knows) still figuring out a lot in life. I’m back in Northern California (was in SoCal for college but came to my senses – NorCal is the place for me). My husband and I have been married for 3 1/2 years and at the moment have our own little zoo of 2 cats, 2 dogs, and some fish… after he finishes school though we might add a human child to the mix.
I love learning how to make things. Baking is definitely one of my passions – I do it when I’m not feeling well, when I need to relax, and well, anytime I think there are people around who will eat. I adore children and animals – they energize me most of the time… nothing like being sick and having your pet curl up with you. I love looking out at the water with no one else around. Quiet, contemplative, perfect.
Why do I come here? I love what you write. I feel a kinship. Oh, and I love when you create a recipe – I’m always proud of you for figuring that stuff out (yes, I can be proud of people I’ve never met). I like that you write “real.” I’m not sure I can describe exactly what I mean by that – but that you write about your path, your thoughts.
And in the course of writing this my dog smacked my keyboard three times… I think he’s ready to go to the park (the humans are just waiting another hour for it to get a bit cooler).

  21. Anna
    July 12, 2010 | 2:02 pm

I’m Anna, I’m from Massachusetts but go to college in DC, and I just turned 22 today. I work on an organic farm and truly adore my job. I also like cooking, yoga, running, biking, and traveling. I read Sound Eats because I love your blog voice- it’s very real and authentic. I also love your humility… I get easily annoyed with the seemingingly elevated egos of some bloggers I won’t name but you stay down to earth!
