My days vary on pretty much a daily basis, so I thought I’d show you a day where I consumed all meals except for one outside of the home. This particular day I was working a long shift with a wake-up call before 5AM. Then (obviously) home for a nap.
Not all days are like this, and my schedule will only keep changing when I begin my fall semester. Let the games begin!
But first things first…coffee. When one’s the first one in the office and there before 5:30am, coffee is most definitely priority #1. I take mine with skim milk (both coffee & milk provided through work) and bring Truvia from home (one packet).
We have a fridge for employee use, so this day I brought things to refrigerate, including my breakfast. Fage 0% fat Greek Yogurt (plain), 1/2 cup All Bran, and a Truvia packet.
Other beverages from the morning included water and tea that I brought from home. I have a ridiculous reputation around my office and at school for being the girl that stashes tea bags. Seriously – I’ve got tea bags in my purse, back pack, lunch box, etc. It’s such a great way to add some calorie-free flavor and I can always get hot water for free or next-to-nothing! Plus, if they cool down before I finish drinking them, I can just pour it over a cup of ice for instant iced-tea!
This particularly day I enjoyed one of my favorite varieties – a Ginger Peach Tea (thanks, Mom!). And yes – my work does carry both Starbucks and Dunkin Donuts coffee. DD is better, in my humble opinion (partially because I don’t have to pay more for the Sbux, and I just like it better – win, win!)
By the time lunch time rolled around, I was more than ready for the awesome salad I packed. It had a base of romaine and I topped it with 3 oz. grilled chicken, half a chopped plum, about a quarter-cup chopped cherries, half-oz. goat cheese, and one-quarter of an avocado.
The use of a lime wedge was two-fold for my salad dressing. One – it’s delicious, low calorie, and simple enough that I actually enjoy it (I’ve never been big on salad dressing – something my husband still finds weird about me!). Two – lime is a good source of vitamin C, which helps aid in the absorption of the non-heme iron in the dark leafy greens of my salad. Win-win!
Next up: snack time! An apple and peanut butter (I need to get some smaller on-the-go PB packets – these are way too big to finish! Suggestions?).
Once I was home and ready to make dinner, the husband and I enjoyed some lean sirloin steak and a sautéed mix of red bell pepper, mushrooms, sweet onion, and a little turkey bacon. We topped it with some parmesan, and I have to say – for a quick and easy dinner, it tasted fancy!
Un-pictured later that night was some Publix No Sugar Added Vanilla Ice Cream with some mini chocolate chips for pizazz.
Unfortunately I wasn’t feeling super well by the time I got home, so I spent most of my afternoon relaxing and trying to catch up on sleep (apparently I’ve decided to become an insomniac in my not-so-spare time). While I decided the rest was better for me that afternoon, I did go for two, fifteen minute walks while I was at work. One back and forth under a walk way in the rain, and one in the sunshine over flower petals. ![]()
Great way to involve a little movement on a busy day, especially if you don’t think you’ll have time for a better workout later. I usually don’t get more than a fifteen minute break (two on long days like this day), so I try to save my meals for slow times in the day and use my actual breaks for some walking. I also work in a dark, window-less office, so the fresh air and sunlight is a lifesaver!
